Slightly larger and heavier
More impressive, however, is that this improvement occurs in the economy although it is slightly higher, wider, longer and heavier. The new 4.5 liters V8 churns of 425kW power and 540Nm of torque and, together with the seven-speed dual clutch transmission, can propel the 458 from zero to 100km / h in 3.4 seconds, 0.6s faster than the old car.
Considering that the car it replaces, the F430, was a major revision of the 360 Modena, the 458 is essentially a new car. Like the F430 and 360 of the 458 body is made of aluminum, the car to help tip the scales at 1380kg.
The Australians will start deliveries in mid-2010 and, although prices and specifications have not yet been released, the order books are open. Ferrari says the 458 Italy has "an innovative driving environment that has been created in conjunction with former F1 driver Michael Schumacher and will feature a race car inspired steering wheel and dashboard. Although Ferrari have yet to release high-resolution images of the innards of the car, we caught a quick glimpse of it (above) from the company claiming video (below).
