When Ferrari president Luca Cordero di Montezemolo told reporters at this year’s Geneva Motor Show that the prancing horse was testing a hybrid version of the 599 GTB Fiorano, most believe that the model would surface for at least five years.
But a report published in Italy over the weekend suggests the environmentally friendly Ferrari will instead be displayed at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show in March.
Improbable typical hybrids that use a combination of motivation of gasoline and electricity, the 599 system instead have a system derived from F1 KERS (Kinetic Energy Recovery System), mild hybrid system that uses an electric motor transaxle near the back and a pack of lithium-ion batteries.
KERS enables regenerative braking and an automatic start stop system and thanks to its roots of F1, Ferrari KERS system current drivers also an electrical impulse at the touch of a button.
Increasing fuel economy is expected to near 30 per cent of the combined average figure of 27.03 to jump 17.04L/100km.
Although production plans for the 599 Hybrid is not yet officially confirmed if the rumors are correct, expect to see a production model for 2015.
