Volkswagen Golf R32 has a small base, but dedicated fans here in the U.S. It’s 250 horsepower and road-gripping 4Motion all-wheel drive made for the spirit Golf, but the timing of development requires a different approach for the franchise R. Our German friends of VW uses home field advantage at the Frankfurt Motor Show to announce the highly anticipated 2010 R20. The R-badged Golf will eliminate one or two-cylinder turbo and add to the motivation, but the AWD system will be to keep all that power to be wasted on the front wheels.

The R20 will reportedly be powered by an enhanced version of the 2.0L engine capable of 265 hp and 258 lb-ft, probably an exact duplicate of the R20 engine Scirocco. World Car Fans says the new engine will make for a 0-62 time of 6.5 seconds with the six-speed manual and 6.4 seconds with the dual-clutch gearbox. Those times sound rather slow to us, and are similar to what a standard GTI can handle, so we’re guessing VW sand bags per hour.

The R20 also has numerous cosmetic changes including a new front grille, LED daytime running lights and a bunch of cool R badging to know this audience is not run-of-the-mill Golf. Some new rims new, very beautiful, the variety that seems to be 18 inches, and the interior receives some tasteful two tone treatment as well. We will be sure to update you on all things, like official information from VW R20 will be available. Click below to enjoy the gallery with high resolution.
