Fuel storage and delivery systems supplier TI Automotive Ltd. has won a major contract with Mercedes-Benz, marks the largest single source contract in the history of TI.
Auburn Hills-based TI was named global supplier of fuel tank systems for multiple lines of Mercedes-Benz models. TI will not release specific models, said spokesman of TI, Frank Buscemi. He said the total contract value could not be released yet.
Mercedes-Benz will provide TI with seven types of plastic fuel tanks, fuel filler pipes and lines carrying fluid.
“This award, along with more than two dozen other global and regional agreements have gained over the past 18 months, optimally positions TI Automotive to future success and market leadership in the fluid systems,” said CEO Bill Kozyra in a statement. “This is a great opportunity for us to further develop our position with Daimler AG and the long term, reliable partner and to provide their vehicles with some of the most innovative technologies available fuel system.”
In January, TI announced it would move its corporate headquarters from Warren to Auburn Hills. Kozyra, who took over in 2008, reorganized the company into five divisions, cut costs and restructure the debt.
Kozyra, told Crain’s sister publication Automotive News in January that it planned to build its operations in North America from 25 percent of global sales to 35 percent in three years.
The restructuring of 18 months are the 55 percent of all salaried employees and temporary wage cuts, which ended in January, for all managers at the director level and above.
