We’ve obtained hold of documents connecting to that other Toyota recall, the one from last fall concerning pedal interference with floor mats. Attaching the floor mats to the sits was the brief full term fix, but now Toyota has the perpetual solvent. This admits cars with the Denso pedal that is not part of the sticky-pedal recall.

The important features: cutting off the bottom of the pedal to make it shorter (yes, with a reciprocal saw) reworking the sound-deadening and rug near the pedal, and most critical, from our point of view, a reflash of the computer to give braking priority over throttle inputs. The documents we looked at specifically refers Camry models with the Denso pedal. Our other report details the shim fix to fomites with the CTS pedal, but that doesn’t describe making these changes to the nether of the pedal or the carpet. Or is that wrapped under a separated recall? Almost certainly, as its unthinkable that the reflash wouldn’t be practical to both models. We’ll sustain that as soon as possible.

Meantime, the Denso-equipped Camrys will have some component of their pedals cut off with a reciprocatory saw, orbital sander, and a template and gauge (tools supplied by Toyota). Few work will be done to remove sound constipation material and change the floor shallow. And any of the older unrestricted mats will be replaced by younger variants. The dull rate to dealers is 2.1 hours.

We’d like to consider Toyota place more emphasis on their projects to reflash the computers, and come out with a time-table for covering all their fomites that need this done.
